Although much smaller than portrayed in some movies, Velociraptor was still a dangerous hunter. This agile, lightly built meat-eating dinosaur had sharp, backwardly curved teeth with serrated edges. Each hand was armed with three sharp claws, and the hind feet carried an enlarged, hook-like claw on the second toe. How do scientists know that Velociraptor used its teeth and claws to attack other dinosaurs? In Mongolia in the 1970s, a Velociraptor skeleton was found intertwined with that of a small plant-eating dinosaur called Protoceratops. One foot claw of the Velociraptor was embedded in the neck of the plant-eater, while the jaws of the Protoceratops were clamped down on the predator’s arm.
